EU Climate Pact — Pledge Update
Climate and Cities is an art and design collective that is dedicated to crafting new narratives around climate change. Our goal is to promote knowledge exchange around this important issue in a way that is inclusive to the public, and we have been working hard over the past year to achieve this.
When we joined the EU Climate Pact as ambassadors, we pledged to investigate, research and support new futures and narratives for the climate in the urban environment. We want to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (and fun to engage with). We engaged ourselves to lead creative research projects and to publish the results for this pledge, although we see this pledge as the underlying ethos of most of our activities. Our research itself is guided through five guiding principles: living symbiotically with the environment, being inclusive, applying circular thinking, using creative and engaging thinking and promoting knowledge exchange.
Our primary initiative of the year has been to finalise our book, Creative Climate Investigations. It holds 8 research projects tackling the topics of greenwashing, air quality, environmental effects on well-being, plastic, the ecological impacts of data harvesting, trees, global dimming, and green spaces. The connecting thread within this research is the exploration of the relationship between climate change and cities. This project has been in the works for several months and has required extensive research and collaboration with experts in the field. We held our book launch in October 2022 in London, UK. We have worked closely with scientists, urban planners, and other experts to ensure that the information in the book is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to a wide audience.
To ensure that the book is produced in an environmentally friendly way, we started an investigation into sustainable materials and printing methods and have also made an estimation of the carbon footprint analysis for making these books and have made this process public to share knowledge, which you can find on our website. We have also made sure that the book is available in both digital and print formats so that readers can choose the option that is most convenient for them.
In addition to the book, we have also been working on a number of other initiatives to promote knowledge exchange around climate change. We have organized public events such as lectures and workshops and have also been active on social media, sharing information and resources with a wider audience.
Overall, we are proud of the progress that we have made over the past year, and we look forward to continuing our work in the future. We believe that creative thinking and collaboration are essential in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, and we are committed to using these tools to promote knowledge exchange and raise awareness about this important issue.
